Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)
Child–Parent-Relationship Therapy(CPRT) is a 11-session parent training program designed to help strengthen the relationship between a parent and a child. Parents will be guided through the process by me, a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in child development, relational attachment, and play based interventions. Parents learn both by traditional in-session learning and by experiential recorded play sessions at home. Feedback, personalized resources, and support are provided throughout the process. They are taught basic play therapy skills and principles that they can feel confident implementing at home. These essential skills will help increase understanding between themselves and their children and decrease behavioral and emotional dysregulation. In addition, parents are also given the space in sessions to analyze their own unique parenting styles that include their strengths, areas of improvement, and parental identities.
Some additional things to consider:
- This program is 100% personalized to the specific needs of the family. Not all families work the same so, while there are some general skills that will be helpful in most cases, part of my role will be to help discover strategies that fit your parenting style and address your relationship’s unique issues. (i.e. adoption, trauma, divorce, etc.)
- Each weekly session is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. This schedule structure is to help ensure you get the time you need to process and learn everything you need to be successful outside of therapy.
